connection error ?
When we first turn our computer on we get error no 680-no dial tone vertical dialup format underneath. The error message says cannot connect phone book entry.Following this error no 756 comes up saying the connection is already being dialled. We are on broadband and to connect we have to tick on the dialup connect before we can get on.We do get connected eventually. We were on dialup many years ago with Tiscali but since then changed to broadband with them. Also we get 25/30 spams daily. Please can you help.Regards Ron Coomber( a young 82)

If you have a USB broadband modem it is still handled by the Dialup Networking stuff in Windows, this is supposed to make it more familiar to users but often has the opposite effect.
It sounds like something is trying to connect to the internet before the modem has connected to the line. Using a router would avoid this and is more secure – you could ask Tiscali if they are able to provide a router.
Otherwise go to Tools / Internet Options in Internet Explorer and select the Connections tab. You should only have one connection, it should be the default, and the setting below the list of connections should be “always dial my default connection”.
Have you turned on the spam filtering in the Tiscali email settings at webmail.tiscali.co.uk ? That should help. Otherwise tell us what email software you use.

Hi Denis
This sounds like you are either having problems connecting to T mobile in the first place, or once connected the network doesn’t have the capacity to handle the demands of those connected to the service.
There are some things that you can check and I have some other questions as well.
Check on the T mobile website to see if you have good coverage in your area using your postcode.
http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/services/coverage/
Using the software that came with your dongle, check the signal strength that you are getting. Connect the dongle to your PC with a USB cable and try moving the dongle around to see if you can get better reception.
If you are getting a good signal try running a broadband speed check and see what results you get. Try this website:
http://www.broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk/
I’m not sure what download speeds are currently quoted by T mobile (it used to be 3.6 megabits/s), but in order to be useful you need to be getting a consistent download speed of at least 1 megabit/s.
Are you new to mobile broadband or have you been using it for a while?
Have you always had these problems when using mobile broadband or have they started recently?
Do you find using the service at different times of day makes a difference?

I have recently had similar problems with a client who also uses a T Mobile dongle. I find that it keeps dropping the connection. During a 1 hour lesson we sometimes have to re-connect 3 or 4 times. It is very frustrating!

Thanks for your comments Tim,i have a good connection and a very good signal,i tried the speedchecker and its 776kbps download and 630kbps upload speeds, ive been using t-mobile for 10 months now and the problems started more or less when i first connected and they can happen any time of the day or night,if sending an e-mail and it doesnt send i find if i disconnect then reconnect it sends it out.

Thanks for getting back, Denis.
A few more questions…
Is there an overriding reason why you are using mobile broadband instead of an ADSL or cable link?
e.g. no landline to your property; no or poor ADSL service to your location; you need to connect to the internet from various places.
From my limited experience using mobile broadband (also T mobile as it happens), in my opinion, if you can connect to the internet in some other way then you are likely to get a faster more stable connection than the mobile service.
Have you tried calling T mobile to see what they suggest?
