Hi John,
There are two possible ways in which to scan a document. Each has its pros and cons.
The quickest way is to scan it as an image, just like a photo. This will produce an image file, usually a .jpg or .png file. When you have saved the image file in a suitable location, you can then start up your email, create a message and attach the image file to it.
The second way is to scan the original document using the OCR (optical character recognition) software that is generally bundled with every scanner. The OCR software attempts to convert the image it sees on the scanner into a text document that can be opened in a word processor and edited. Generally, this can be a little tricky and the end result often needs to be edited to correct errors made by the OCR process.
Once you’ve got your document file, it can be attached to an email message in the usual way.
Personally, I find that scanning a document as an image is sufficient for most purposes and will also pick up hand-written comments on the original.
