freeing space on hard disc
I can free up space with Disc Cleanup by deleting Downloaded program files (9760 KB) and Temporary Internet files (49502 KB,gaining 59262KB of disc space.
Is this worth doing?
Without inadvertently deleting something useful?

Hi George,
It’s definitely worth doing. Windows keeps a copy of everything it downloads from the Internet and if these files aren’t cleared out regularly they will start to fill up the hard disk and will also slow the PC down.
Every web page you visit is stored on the hard disk until you clear it out. There are lots of ways to do this; I prefer CCleaner, a free utility you can download from http://www.piriform.com .
“Downloaded program files” can be safely deleted as well. Here’s what Microsoft say about them at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315246 : “Downloaded program files are ActiveX controls and Java programs that are downloaded automatically from the Internet when you view certain pages.”

Hi Chris
Thank you for your advice.
I have in the past accidently deleted passwords with an unwary click, but see now that disc cleaning is safe and is recommended!
Best wishes
