It sounds as though your computer is using the wrong keyboard setting.
I suspect that it’s set to a US keyboard layout, which has the @ sign above the 2, whereas the UK keyboard has the ” above the 2 and the @ sign is above the apostrophe (‘).
To change the keyboard type, go into Control Panel, select Regional and Language Options, click on the Language tab and click the Details button. You’ll see a list of the keyboard layouts currently installed. If the English (United Kingdom) is listed, select it; otherwise add it from the list of available keyboard layouts. Save your changes and exit.
You should now find that the ” and @ signs are where you expect them! )
